Ostara 2026
Ostara is soon so lets discuss it and see what ideas I have for celebrating it with my little ones!
So if you don’t know, Ostara is the Spring Equinox, and this year it falls on March 20th. Day and night are nearly equal in length and its when we really start to notice the beginnings of spring. We already had Imbolc in February, or St Brigid’s Day, when the days begin to get longer. But for me this is the time we really start to notice the incoming warmer months, though it still isn’t all that warm.
So what do I do to celebrate? Well Ostara is seen as a fertility festival, it also features creativity, renewal and has symbols such as rabbits, eggs and deities such as Persephone and Demeter. If you want to learn a little more about these things, check out my post on Ostara here. So to celebrate it this year, I want to keep it simple. Because it is a fertility festival, I want to do some planting with the twins and of course the littlest too. My plan is to buy a few bulbs, and a couple of plant pots, have them decorate the pots and then plant the bulbs. This way they get to see them bloom and its a good symbol for the coming warmer months. Also, as eggs are part of the symbolism, we do chocolate eggs.
The rest of my family are Chrisitians, so my children will also get chocolate eggs then, but I think including them as part of Ostara means they are still learning the symbolism, while also enjoying a favourite treat. Last year I made Ostara baskets, which just featured chocolate eggs and some other little treats, and I’m considering doing the same again this year. If I do, I’ll be posting that on my TikTok.
Other activities you can do include nature walks and looking for signs of Spring. Then for myself I plan to do a small ritual for cleansing, as this can be very useful at any equinox. I am tempted to try an egg cleanse, which is a ritual that involves using an egg to check for negative energies surrounding you, but I’m not sure on that just yet! You can also do an Ostara feast, which would be right up my families street, so I am considering that as well, but I don’t want to take on too much.
This is one of my favourite Sabbats, and I love the symbolism from it. I can’t wait to celebrate it and really get the kids excited for this one. Hopefully they’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
Do you celebrate Ostara? What do you have planned for it! Let me know in the comments.
