Therapy - My Self Love Journey

A huge part of my self-love journey is attending therapy/counselling sessions.

I’m a big believer that everyone should attend talking therapy at least once. We all have things we don’t talk about, and I find therapy is my way to get those things out in a safe space. Personally, I’ve attended many different kinds of talking therapy; from basic counselling to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to ones which targetting specific issues like self-harm. My current sessions focus heavily on self-love and building myself back up to a place where I can love myself the way I should be.

A sentence I found myself saying at my last session was “I want to be more Freyja.” By this, I meant I want to be as headstrong as my 19-month-old. The confidence and self-belief she has as well as how she expresses herself and is truly just enjoying her best life, is how I now aspire to be. I adore that I’ve helped create this confident little person, but I also wish I had even an ounce of her confidence, so that was the goal I’ve set for these sessions.

I know how strange this must seem, but for me, she is the best example I had of someone who is truly going to go places because of their self-assuredness. I’d also love to take all the credit for this, but truly I cannot as she has always been like that!

The main thing I love about therapy is that it is truly a safe space to express whatever you need. There are things I’ve only ever discussed with a therapist that I could never discuss with anyone else. It’s the kind of space where you know you can bring up anything and it can be talked about without judgement, creating this safe space, it allows you to feel like any topic is an option.

Therapy has been such a large part of my self-love journey that I couldn’t imagine getting this far without it! It’s become part of my self-care routine, and helped me be more open with the people I’m closest to.

Have you tried therapy? Do you attend sessions regularly? Let me know in the comments!
